Sapphics of Austin take on Bar Moxy- Downtown Austin

Downtown Bar Moxy was the home for our Austin lesbian and sapphic community to wrap up February. This super chic, bougie hotel-bar setting gave the night great energy — dumb easy to find the group, buy a drink, and make conversation with anyone there. The cocktail menu was particularly delightful (memories after the bar are somewhat hazy but that’s how you know the drinks slapped). We celebrated some new career moves with shots, tacos, and genuine queer joy.

We reiterate this often, but making friends as an adult is never easy. You make good friends as a kid because you’re forced to see them every day in school and most of us (myself included) disperse to other cities when we grow up and then making friends feels oddly like dating.

The “did they like me??” or “should I ask if they want to hang out again??” thoughts enter the brain and we find out that no one is forcing us to see people every day and learn about them and become close with them as a result. It is now something we have to actively do in adulthood. This hangout was a great example of what our weekly meetups are about. Not forced, and no one has to come every week, but the more you go over time, the more depth our connections gain as well. This was a fun night of friends becoming bros for many (especially since we hit Red River St. for some dancing after).

And we will do it all again. Come through to the next hangout and make connections in the sapphic community.
