About Sapphic Weekly ATX - Austin’s Rotating Lesbian Bar & Weekly Sapphic Hangouts
Sapphic Weekly ATX is Austin’s rotating lesbian bar - a free weekly hangout that exists to give the lesbian, sapphic, WLW, and queer women of Austin a space to meet, socialize, and connect. We select a new spot every single week, and you can always find where we’re headed next on our Upcoming Events page and Instagram, so any Austin sapphic looking for queer community always knows there’s a place they can go and genuinely feel welcome.
Why We Started Sapphic Weekly ATX
Making friends as an adult can feel extremely intimidating. We make our best friends as kids because we see them every day in school, only to scatter to different cities when we grow up. Then suddenly, making friends feels oddly like dating.
The "did they like me??" or "should I ask if they want to hang out again??" thoughts creep in, and we realize we're no longer surrounded by people every day, building genuine connections with depth as a result. In adulthood, it's something we have to actively make a point to do, with the added layer of finding people in our community.
One of the first things we look for when moving to a new city is where the community is. Where's this city's lesbian bar? Or just any space we can go to reliably every week and simply know we're in a sapphic space? Unfortunately, Austin does not have a permanent lesbian bar. And that's why we created Sapphic Weekly ATX. We wanted there to be a sapphic space every single week, so our community can first feel comfortable and then create connections. There's no pressure or FOMO from missing a week, because there's always next week. With each week, faces become more and more familiar, and suddenly we find ourselves building the kind of deep connections we had in childhood.
Who Comes to Our Hangouts
Many people come to make friends, because as we know, it's not always that easy. Others come looking to meet someone, and plenty have. Our hangouts are where connections start. We've watched lifelong friendships form, group chats take off, first dates unfold, and relationships blossom, all because two people ended up at the same spot on the same night. Whether you're looking for your people, your person, or just a low-pressure night in a sapphic space, that's exactly what we're here for.
Newcomers are always our priority. We make a point of making every new face feel comfortable, whether you're new to Austin, newly out, or just want to explore more of Austin while surrounded by sapphics. Every event is an open invite to every sapphic looking to connect.
Austin is a beautiful city filled with beautiful people. Getting to explore Austin and help build our sapphic and LGBTQ+ community at the same time is a privilege and something we have come to love. We hope you do too.
